Little Mushroom Farm Instructions

  1. Congratulations on your new mushroom growing kit! We hope you experience as much joy growing your own mushrooms as we do.

  2. Your kit is alive! It is best to start the kit soon after receiving it, following the instructions below. We recommend starting it within 3 months of purchase for the best results. Store in a cool dry place until starting.

  3. We recommend keeping the kit in the box with the lid open if you live in a colder or drier environment.

  4. To activate the mushroom growing block, use a sharp knife to cut a small “X” about 4” on the widest and largest face of the block (the side that is facing up in the kit upon opening). Be mindful to cut no deeper that ¼” into the block itself. Your aim is to cut the plastic wrap, and expose the mushroom growing block to fresh air.

  5. Fill the included sprayer bottle with water, and spray the mushroom block around the “X” cut. Spray 2-4 times a day.

  6. Humidity, fresh air, and light are all super important for healthy mushroom growth. Your mushroom block enjoys lots of humidity, indirect light (about 12 hours a day) and fresh air. We think the best place to keep your kit is on the counter near the kitchen sink.

  7. Continue to spray the mushroom block 2-4 times a day. Try not to touch or fidget with the kit too much. Even if you don’t notice anything, it is growing! Your job is to keep providing the humidity.

  8. You should see growth within 7 days. Once mushroom growth begins, continue spraying, and your mushrooms should double in size every day.

  9. Lion’s Mane is ready to harvest once you notice the hairs or “spines” on the mushroom have developed. Oysters are ready to harvest when the caps have opened but still have some downward curl on the edges.

  10. To harvest your mushrooms, gently grasp the cluster and twist and pull away from the block. Use a knife to cut off any bits of the block that may be stuck on the mushrooms.

  11. Store your freshly harvested mushrooms in a paper bag in the refrigerator for up to 5 days (pink oysters will only keep for 2 days).

  12. Cook and enjoy!

  13. We love to see your grow! Send us any photos or questions at info@kmmushrooms.com or tag us on social media.

  14. You may get a second or third harvest of mushrooms out of the block, depending on the conditions it’s been living in. Simply continue the cycle of spraying the mushroom block to initiate a second round of growth.
